Food Drive
Employees of Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) are a generous group! As far back as the early 1990’s, employees gave baskets of food during the holiday season to needy people in the community. FPUA employees show concern for the community they serve daily.
In 1997, interested employees formed a Food Drive Committee to oversee the Food Drive and encourage year-round giving. The goal of the Fort Pierce Utilities Food Drive is to support our company mission: “To provide our customers with economical, reliable, and friendly service in a continuous effort to enhance the quality of life in our community.” The specific purpose is to collect and encourage food donations from employees for distribution to local agencies or organizations who give to the needy, and also to foster awareness of those agencies.
Each month a different organization or agency receives our donated food. Employees are allowed to dress casually on Fridays if they bring in a donation to the Food Drive. Each participating department has a donation site where food items are collected each month. At the end of the month, donations are taken to a central FPUA location for delivery to the recipient organization.
In 2003, the Water/Wastewater Operations department enthusiastically committed to this cause by developing a “Dollar-A-Month Club.” Cash is voluntarily donated by employees, and the department purchases food for the monthly Food Drive recipients. This organized effort has made it easy for their employees to participate. In 2006, the Electric T&D and Electric Engineering departments began similar programs with their employees. The outstanding participation of these three departments has increased our food contributions to the community by approximately 50%!
